Brian called and said that he and his family were up our way, and wanted to stop by and say hi.  Unfortunately, we were not home, so we missed meeting him and his family.  The good news was that the Hassel family went over to the John Deere Commons in Moline, Illinois, and had a good time there.  Brian said that he didn't see many older tractors on display.  Better luck next time Brian!  It gives you an excuse to go back.

Here are a few pictures that show the progress he is making restoring  the model B shown above:

I got this neat email from Brian on 9/3/00, and I think it says a lot about how our hobby helps strengthen our families:

Hi Terry, and Carolyn

By the Way we live in Dorchester Township. We really like it here, I built the house we live in and we wouldn't move for the world (got to much work in it to move) I am sending you a couple of pictures one of the John Deere and the family, Myself, Connie My wife, David my son and Ashlie my daughter, The day we brought the John Deere home, and another photo of the 37. I really don't know were Lockport is but I'm going to find out here in a few minutes. (going to look it up). I don't know if you've ever heard of Victorian Days at Hazel Dell in Jersyville Il. but we were there today, lots of antique tractors and engines, and they even have a Civil War reenactment. Pretty neat lots of John Deere tractors there. They kept trying to talk me into bringing mine up there. It is just about 20 miles east of Litchfield. But at the moment I have My steering wheel sent out to be redone, and I have a Chevrolet steering wheel on it (didn't think that would look real good in a show). They had a John Deere model G high crop that really caught my eye, I think a model G will be my next purchase. (Don't think I'll be ever to find a high crop) But I will keep looking. I will settle for a G or a GM. I really like this since I got into it. It is something for me and the boy to do together. It really turns him on, I had been looking for something that him and I could do together that strikes his interest. I THINK I FOUND IT. He is 9 years old just had a birthday on 8/31/00.

I changed all my oil's yesterday even opened up the crankcase and the transmission and cleaned them all out before I put in the new oil. I had been running the tractor on fuel (60% kerosene and 40% gas for a few days cleaned all of that out and now running on gas with lead substitute and marvel mystery oil). Now the boy can start it on his own. (GREAT THING)!! Well anyhow I had better go for now. Supper is ready!! Have a great one!!!
